Too Much Sauce!?!? – NJ

All BBQ. All summa ’17. In a perfect world this would be my life from now to the end of the solstice. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world, so I’m going to try to fit in as many BBQ reviews as I possibly can. Eat Street BBQ Grill was on my radar, which is why early on a Sunday afternoon #squad found itself  in Columbus sitting in front of a small store front #thingswedoforbbq. Located in a strip mall on Columbus Rd next to the Columbus Cupcakery sits Eat Street. A small 25-30 seat dining area including countertop seating. We placed our order and took a seat at one of the reclaimed wood tables. The environment was extremely warm and inviting, with all of the patrons seeming to be acquainted with one another. We were brought out house chips and salsa which was perfect to hold us over until the food arrived. We ordered the Three Choice platter that included three choices of meat and three sides. Our meat selection: 1/4 Chicken, Brisket, and 1/2 Rack of Ribs. The sides: Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans & Pa truffle fries. The mac & cheese was the stand out to me, they were baked with a cheesy crust but still creamy. The baked beans were somewhat bland with not much to be desired and the truffle fries may have been a little too ambitious for a small BBQ spot. We choose sauce on the side, because we wanted to taste the rubbed smoky flavor of the meat then dip it in the spicy house BBQ sauce. That may have been a mistake, though, the ribs were pretty dried out from either being over cooked or leftover from the day before. The brisket was shredded and had some decent flavor, but no real wow factor.  The chicken was very smoky, maybe a little too much, and would have trouble holding up against the better BBQ joints throughout Central/South Jersey area. This is how Eat Street graded out on the Litness Test:

  • Appearance 🔥🔥🔥🔥
  • Atmo 🔥🔥🔥🔥
  • Food 🔥🔥🕯
  • Service 🔥🔥🔥
  • Location 🔥🔥🔥
  • Overall 🔥🔥🔥

I definitely will be revisiting this place for an update and hopefully I can upgrade its rating. Until next time Grubbers stay hungry, stay savage…
