I’m no rookie when it comes to Fat Louie’s in Woodbury and their specialty sandwiches. My go to is usually one of their fantastic breaded chicken cutlet sandwiches, I’m a huge Fat Louie fan because you can taste the freshness and quality of every single ingredient that goes into their food. They even have some of the best mozzarella sticks and fries in the South Jersey area. My last trip to the Woodbury sandwich slingin shop I decided to change the game up and order a cheesesteak. If you read their reviews on Facebook and Yelp you’ll see multiple people raving about their steaks and I was in the mood for the Philly signature sammich so I said why not. I ordered a regular (10.5″) cheesesteak on their premium seeded loaf with provolone cheese, fried onions, peppers, mushrooms and little bit of mayo….. ok I ordered mozzarella sticks also, I regret nothing.
Now when it comes to portions Fat Louie’s isn’t stingy, even their small sandwiches will have you on your couch in a comatose state. I unwrapped the beautiful beefy behemoth and immediately went to work. Through my first couple of bites one of the things I noticed was how soft the bread was yet held up under all the meat and grease. Usually seeded rolls are a little on the tougher side so this was a pleasant surprise. On their menu underneath the sliced steak section it says “Fresh Not Frozen!” and you can definitely taste. The meat was cooked perfectly, tender and not over cooked and all the fresh prepared vegetables combined with the beef to make a sandwich that absolutely lived up to the hype. It kind of reminded me of Gaetanos (another South Jersey sandwich shop) but the meat had way more flavor and the bread was superior.
After destroying the first half I had to call a 30 second timeout and regroup. Yes I could have saved the second half for another day but I’m no quitter and it was too damn good to not finish it. I’m telling you people if you’re looking for a high quality sandwich and if you’re in the Woodbury area definitely give Fat Louie’s a try, you won’t regret it. They also have a location in Logan, NJ.
