News – “The Most Popular Late-Night Takeout Orders, According to GrubHub” – The list is surprisingly varied but the unhealthiness of the choices is not.

Online restaurant ordering has revolutionized the way many of us eat: not just making takeout more convenient but also putting all the options in one place. Gone are the days of having to worry about “Are they open?” “Do they deliver here?” and “What do they serve?” Now, all of that info is determined with a single search. It’s especially important during late-night hours when cravings can truly run amuck. With this newfound freedom for late-night ordering in mind, the personal finance site GOBankingRates teamed up with online ordering giant GrubHub to figure out the most popular late-night takeout orders around the country—where they happen and what we choose to indulge in.

To create the list, first GrubHub used its data to determine which 20 cities are most likely to order meals after dinner hours. From there, the company looked at what items were most popular in those locations. Looking at the first criteria, the survey discovered that the results skewed heavily towards areas with a high population of college students. East Lansing, Michigan; New Brunswick, New Jersey, Columbus, Ohio; Allston Massachusetts; Syracuse, New York; Providence, Rhode Island; Champaign, Illinois; Ithaca, New York; Brighton, Massachusetts; and Albany, New York, made up the top ten in that order.

Hmmm so you’re telling me college kids are most likely to order after hours? Wellllll no shit man. I didn’t need an intricate survey to tell me drunk and stoned college students are ordering dominos more than some regular joe with a wife and two kids. But lets move on from that.

The biggest eye opener was that Spicy Tuna Rolls were the heavy hitter in Brighton, Mass which looks to be the hub of Boston College, Harvard, MIT and Northeastern. I am officially claiming it as the Sushi delivery capital of the WORLD (watch out Japan). Leave it to the brainiacs to choose high-class sushi over the low brow pizza everyone else is jamming down their gullet. Papa John probably packed it up and moved right out of Brighton, Mass when he figured out he couldn’t bribe those kids with free pepperoni peppers.

The other takeaway I had been every school in the top 10 was in the north or northeast which is because the winters are hellacious and people aren’t leaving their cozy dorm or apartment when its 10 degrees out. Makes total sense.
One thing I know for sure is the next time I am in Boston you better believe I am trying every Spicy Tuna Roll in a 20 mile radius.
