Grubbin Sports College Football Week 11 Preview

Yet again college football did not disappoint last week which further proves why it is the greatest sport on earth. The Big Ten’s world got turned upside down when Penn State fell to Sparty after an agonizingly long weather delay. Then there was the drubbing of Ohio State at Iowa where the term blackout was in full force. JT Barrett went from the Heisman favorite after the Penn State game to the guy everyone knows him as which is a stat stuffer against the bottom dwellers but a mediocre QB against the big boys. Wisconsin is the Big Ten’s only playoff hope now.

Clemson handled business against NC State in a hard fought game. The real drama came when Dave Doeren accused Clemson of illegally using a laptop on the sideline. Turns out it was just some freshman running the Clemson social media account. If Dave would have checked out the fire tweets coming from the Clemson Football account he would have known. Do your research next time coach. Then the turnover chain was out all night in Miami as the Canes controlled VaTech from start to finish setting the big stage for this week.

Bama took care of LSU rather easily Saturday night. The score felt a lot worse than 24-10 as LSU really never had a shot. The tide just keeps on rolling.

Bedlam lived up to the hype and more. A 62-52 shootout was way closer than the score shows as the last TD was in garbage time when Oklahoma State brought the house and the Sooners put up another TD. That shouldn’t have been a surprise though since defense was optional in this matchup. Baker put up just under 600 yards passing with 5 TD’s and cemented himself in the drivers seat for the Heisman. My question is who gets to that spot next week? It went from Saquon Barkley to JT Barrett to Baker Mayfield in consecutive weeks. TCU’s defense will look to continue that trend this weekend.

Off to Week 10 which has another loaded slate. Only 7 ranked matchups between teams ranked by the committee. 8 if you go by the AP which is a new record. Either way 3 top ten matchups headline the weekend.

Game Of The Week

#3 Notre Dame (-3) vs #7 Miami

This one doesn’t have the same feel as the old Catholics vs Convicts matchups from the late 80’s but I am sure the hate still is from the fans back then. A Notre Dame win and the Irish’s playoff chances look even better but a loss and they are toast. A loss for Miami doesn’t kill them as they can still win the ACC with a win over Clemson but a win will shut up the all the critics so far (including me). All that being said if Wimbush and Adams are healthy ND wins by 2 touchdowns.

Top 25 Battles

#1 Georgia (-2.5) vs #10 Auburn

Auburn has a shot to run the table and get to the playoff as the first 2 loss team to do it but I just don’t see that happening. The offense has looked better and the defense is stout but no one has been able to slow down Georgia’s rushing attack yet. Fromm doesn’t do anything to lose the game which is key for a freshman but he will need to make 2 or 3 key throws to get Georgia over the top. It is a close one but the Dawgs by 4.

            #5 Oklahoma (-6.5) vs #6 TCU

If you are expecting another Oklahoma shootout think again. TCU has a top 10 defense and Baker’s reign of terror ends this weekend. He still has a solid performance but the Horned Frogs steal a 7 point win on the road and start making their case for the playoff.

#13 Ohio State (-15.5) vs #12 Michigan State

It’s hard to predict which Ohio State and JT Barrett is going to show up each week but I think its the good one this weekend. Not a high scoring affair though. I see 20-10 on the horizon as Ohio State bounces back and knocks Sparty out of the Big Ten East race.

#2 Alabama (-14) vs #16 Mississippi State

Everyone keeps jawing about how Bama hasn’t played anyone this year which to be honest isn’t necessarily false but it doesn’t mean they are undefeated because of a weak schedule. They have been putting it on everybody and I think that continues against the Bulldogs with a 21 point statement win. Roll Damn Tide!!!

#8 Wisconsin (-12) vs #20 Iowa

The Badgers finally play someone this week but I think it is fools gold with the Hawkeyes. They are coming off an emotional win against Ohio State and I can’t see them following that up again this week. Still a low scoring affair but the Badgers win comfortably by 10 points. On to Michigan.

#15 Oklahoma State (-6.5) vs #21 Iowa State

My heart says take the Cyclones but my head says the Pokes rebound and put it on them. The head wins this one as Oklahoma State wins by 10 but it is close until the 4th quarter. I love what Matt Campbell is doing at Iowa State. It will be interesting to see what happens if he stays as it can only get better from here.

A 4-1 Feeling Being A 2-3 Reality

Couple that with my Squirrely pick of the week being an absolute DUD and it was a bad week. I literally got that parlay completely wrong. The bright side is if you did the opposite you probably cashed in quite nicely.

I am trying out a new strategy this weekend so we will see how that goes. Looking at 3rd down and Red Zone efficiency matchups. Fingers crossed for this week!

Against the Spread
WASHINGTON (-5.5) vs Stanford
OKLAHOMA STATE (-6.5) vs Iowa State
WASHINGTON STATE (-1) vs Utah
NOTRE DAME (-3) vs Miami

Teaser – 6 Points
TCU (+12.5/+6.5) vs Oklahoma
MICHIGAN STATE (+21.5/+15.5) vs Ohio St

Feelin’ Squirrely Parlay
Washington: ML (-220)

Oklahoma State: ML (-260)

Notre Dame: ML (-145)

Washington State: (-1)

5 to 1 odds on this bad boy. Learned my lesson and went all favorites this week. It could all be over tonight though if Washington puts up a stinker. Only time will tell. Good luck this week.
