JGTV: Episode 1

On Episode 1 of JGTV Lauren and Ant aka “Young Thumbs” went to Philly to try the highly acclaimed Spot Burger and Village Whiskey.

Spot Burger has won Winner of Rewrapped on Food Network, Food Truck of the Year 2012 – Eater Phila, Zagat -“Top Ten Hottest Burgers in Philadelphia”, and Best of Philly 2014/2016. Their Sandwich “The Jawn” won sandwich of the year in 2016 by Philly Mag. So of course they tried that and the “Cowabunga” burger which was the burger of the day. The Jawn consists of slice ribeye, sloppy joe meat, french fries, grilled onions, red onion, cheez whiz and their signature Spot Sauce. The Cowabunga was a burger stuffed with jumbo lump crab, tarragon butter, topped with arugula, roasted corn and red pepper aioli. Man oh man, let’s just say they quickly found out why Spot Burger keeps reeling in the awards and high praise. Everything was made fresh to order, and you could truly taste the difference between them and places that use frozen meat. Everything was so fantastic that Young Thumbs almost ordered 2 more burgers just for the road, needless to say we’ll definitely be back to do some more menu exploration.

After that banging start to their day they wandered over to Village Whiskey where they dove into the Whiskey King Burger and the BBQ Pulled Pork Sammy. The Whiskey King had Maple Bourbon Glazed Cipollini, Rogue Bleu Cheese, Applewood Bacon, and Foie Gras. It must have been tremendous because Ant said 2 words in between taking this beauty down. The BBQ Pulled Pork Sammy was exactly what it says in the title and actually had Lauren taken aback by how good it was. It was packed with flavor and could contend with some of the bbq spots around the city when it comes to a pulled pork sandwich. A food episode isn’t complete without some dessert so they decided to get the “Baked Alaskan” which consisted of Chocolate Cake, Vanilla & Coffee Chocolate Chips Ice Cream, and meringue and also got the “Nutty Italian” milkshake which essentially was a nutella milkshake. Both items were so good that they almost went back to the kitchen to personally shake the chefs hand.
