Grubbin Sports: College Football Week 13 Preview

To say last weeks games were underwhelming may be an understatement but it set up a BIG weekend of games this Saturday. Wisconsin took care of business although it took into the second half to do so against Michigan. Last years Michigan team beats Wisconsin by 10 but with no QB they were no match against the Badgers.

Oklahoma State dropping to Kansas State was really the only stunner from this week. That hurts Oklahoma and TCU’s resume as that was a big win for both. Bill Snyder gets it done yet again

Then there was the OklahomaKansas game which is being talked about for anything but the actual gameplay. It started with Kansas refusing to shake Baker Mayfield’s hand at the coin toss. My guess is that was a result of Baker talking all kinds of pre game shit to them but I haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere (just an educated guess based on his history). Then there was the cheap shot hit on Baker that wasn’t called targeting. That spurred Baker to tell Kansas fans they have one win and to look forward to basketball season. The culmination is the Baker Mayfield nut grab and telling them to “take care of his nether regions” to keep things PC around here. Now if you know me from my writing is that offensive gestures and remarks do not offend me. The locker room and field of play are not part of the PC reality of today which I am glad still exists in some capacity. My problem with Baker is he just needs to chill. Like there is trash talk and being cocky but have some self awareness and tone it down a little. You are a quarterback for one of the top teams in the nation so start acting like one. Other than that I thought it was amusing and his “one drive” suspension is warranted for all of the other jackass things he did leading up to this.

In the ACCMiami didn’t wake up until the 3rd quarter against Virginia when they started turning a 28-14 deficit into a win. I will give them a pass on that. NC State continued to prove me right losing to Wake Forest. Everyone was on that NC State bandwagon except for your mans who didn’t believe it. Same goes for Oklahoma State.

The USCUCLA game didn’t disappoint as Darnold outlasted Rosen for the close win which gave UCLA that final reason to fire Jim Mora Jr. It opened up some more Chip Kelly rumors which sources say he will be picking between the Bruins and Gators. It will be good to have Chip back in college. The dude is a walking story line for sure.

Lastly Notre Dame looked like trash against Navy. We got the win but Wimbush was about 3 feet high on every pass and continues to struggle throwing the ball. This weekends game against Stanford scares me. Off to this weeks dynamite slate.

Game Of The Week

#1 Alabama (-4.5) vs #6 Auburn

Well what do we have here folks. One of the best rivalries has it all on the line this weekend as the winner goes to the SEC Championship game against Georgia with a shot at the playoff. If Auburn loses then they are out and Gus Mahlzan may be back on the hot seat. An Alabama loss and they will need some help to get back into the playoff picture for sure. The public seems to be on Auburn but I just feel Alabama takes this one even though all of the defensive injuries say take the Tigers. I just believe in Saban. Bama by 6. Roll DAMN Tide.

But Auburn fans never forget…..

Top 25 Battles

#8 Notre Dame (-2.5) vs #21 Stanford

My Irish have been playing real poopy lately and I have no confidence they will turn it around against Stanford. Teams finally figured out if you make Wimbush throw the ball that he can’t. I would literally put 8 in the box all game and dare him to beat you through the air. I see that being what Stanford does and they win by a touchdown at home.

#17 Washington (-10.5) vs Washington State

LOVE watching the Apple Cup every year and every year I root for Wazzu. That won’t change but I just don’t see them pulling it off. As bad as Washington has looked lately The Cougs can never seem to move the ball on Washington. My heart says Wazzu but my gut is going with the Huskies by 10.

#3 Clemson (-14) vs South Carolina

This number seems spot on to me. Clemson hasn’t been playing well offensively and the Gamecock defense will push Kelly Bryant early. I just see Clemson’s defense shutting down South Carolina and the Tigers score late to make it a two touchdown win which sets up one of the biggest ACC Championship games ever.

Rivalry Week

#9 Ohio State (-12) vs Michigan

I always look forward to this game but it just feels like it lost some of its appeal when Peters went down last week. I have just had enough of watching O’Korn attempt to throw the ball. That factor alone has me picking the Buckeyes to win by 3 scores.

#7 Georgia (-11) vs Georgia Tech

Georgia knows how to stop the run (except against Auburn) but the Tech run game is not traditional with the triple option so this will be an interesting matchup. I see it being close for most of the game but Georgia pulls away late to win by 10.
