nypost.com – A charity has come up with a novel way to dispense food, clothing and toiletries to the homeless: via vending machine.
Britain’s Action Hunger will unveil its first vending machine in the next few days to provide help to those less fortunate, Metro UK reported.
Up to 100 homeless people will be able to take three free items a day from the dispenser, which will be stocked with items including water, fresh fruit, socks, toothpaste, antibacterial lotion, energy bars and sandwiches.
To activate the machine, users will need a chip-based key card that will be handed out by another homeless charity called The Friary.
“While other organizations can offer empathy and human contact and counseling… we solely provide unmanned vending machines,” charity spokesman Huzaifah Khaled said, according to The BBC.
The first machine — part of a pilot program — will be installed in the city of Nottingham at the entrance of a shopping center.
The Friary will prioritize people who are sleeping on the streets, its CEO Sam Crawford told Metro UK.
This is dope as hell!
