&Pizza – Center City, Philadelphia

I found out about &Pizza (15th and Walnut) from Young Thumbs, this seems to be a growing trend between us but I definitely ain’t mad at it. Especially if he’s going to keep putting me onto spots like this one.

&Pizza originated in Washington, D.C. and expanded locations to Philly in October 2016. If you check out the about section on their website you’ll get a glimpse at some of the awards they have won since they’ve went into business, here’s a few below:

BEST PIZZA IN DC: Washington City Paper – 2017

BEST FAST CASUAL DINING: Washington City Paper- 2017

Those are some prestigious accolades man, the next generation of pizza?! So of course after reading those and seeing Y.T. smash a whole pizza to himself during our lunch break I had to check it out and report back to y’all.
I’m not even going to draw this out any longer, the pizza is phenomenal. When you walk in the first thing you get hit with is the aroma of all those fresh locally produced ingredients being prepared. Combine that with the decor, music and just overall ambiance and you already know you’re in for a treat. I don’t even like flat bread pizza, well at least I thought I didn’t, but &Pizza has made me a believer. After doing my reconnaissance (glaring at Y.T.’s pizza) I decided to try two of their most popular pizzas, the American Honey and the Gnarlic.
The Gnarlic
The Gnarlic is their version of a white pizza and was topped with garlic ricotta, mozzarella, grilled onion, basil pesto, garlic oil, parmesan. I got put onto the white pizza wave late in the game (around 27) so I’m no expert but I’ve been a fan of it ever since and this was up there with the best of the ones that I’ve tried.

The American Honey
The American Honey consisted of mozzarella cheese, arugula, spicy tomato sauce, red pepper flakes, goat cheese and hot honey sauce. Fuck the flatbread part of it, simply put this was fantastic pizza in general. The combination of the gooey goat cheese and the spicy hot honey made for one of the more lit dining experiences I’ve had in a while. If you’re a fan of spicy food you’ll fall in love with the American Honey, it had the ideal amount of kick with each bite.

After that introduction you can bet your ass that I’ll be back to try the rest of the menu. I also forgot to mention that they have a pizza of the month every month. This month’s pizza is called the Dirty Bird (their version of buffalo chicken pizza) and that’s topped with garlic ricotta, shredded mozzarella, jalapeño, chicken, buffalo sauce, banana pepper, romaine, blue cheese, red pepper flakes. As you can see their not playing fair anymore making pizzas topped with that combo of delicious fuckin ingredients. Needless to say if you find yourself in the mood for pizza in the center city area, take you and your hunger down to &Pizza. You won’t regret it.
