Wing Wars is coming to Atlantic City this month and of course the Just Grubbin team is going to be there to cover the whole scene. Thrown by the good folks over at 103.7 WMGM Rocks and AC weekly who brought you the critically acclaimed Burger Brawl. This year’s event will have 18 of the area’s best wing-serving restaurants putting their tastiest foot forward at Golden Nugget’s Showroom on Saturday, January 27th from noon until 4 p.m.
Now, anyone who knows me, knows that I love a good war. My competitive juices love to see combatants duke it out to see who is the absolute best at whatever it may be. So that obviously means I’m super amped up to see these restaurants go into a delicious battle for the crown of best wing.
As a chicken wing connoisseur who has sampled over 1000 different wings (just a rough estimate), I hope these wing spots are ready for the intense scrutiny the Just Grubbin team is excited to provide. Judging from the vendor list, this year’s contestants are bringing a wide range of styles and flavors to the table.
Let’s take a look at some of this year’s participants:
A.C. Burger Co., Atlantic City: These guys are located in Harrah’s and I hear they make some great grub. I did some research on the competition and apparently they put crushed doritos on their wings. No idea what to expect taste-wise here but I’ll be damned if that doesn’t sound potentially fantastic. Step aside panko breading.
Pic-A-Lilli Pub, Atlantic City: Pic’s has been one of our favorite spots since the early 2000’s. Great size and spice, and tons of great wing flavors. We expect a great showing from this South Jersey staple.
Hooters, Atlantic City: I don’t care what anyone says, Hooters makes one of the best wings in the business. Breaded, naked, it doesn’t matter: these wings bang hard. Their buffalo sauce is unique, and so damn good that you can buy a jarred version in most supermarkets. On pure crispy deliciousness their wings stand a chance against anyone. I wonder how the judges will grade them on creativity but I can’t wait to taste them myself.
Vagabond Kitchen and Tap House, Atlantic City: I’ve only been to Vagabond a few times but each time I was eminently impressed. Their wings have an artisan vibe that any casual observer can tell has a ton of love put into all their dishes. They were also the champions of last year’s Wing Wars so everyone should be gunning for them.
The Cove, Brigantine: Pterodactyl wings! Naming their wings after a dinosaur is the most cockily delicious thing I’ve heard. Don’t worry, no Dino’s were made extinct during the frying of these chickens. Unlike most places that serve wingettes or wing dings, The Cove serves full chicken wings just like my momma used to make. These are definitely the wings Just Grubbin contributor Big “Glitch in the Matrix” Al would go for since he’s the original Chicken Sweat Boy™ now.
Not only will you get the chance to throw down on all you can eat wings there will also be some awesome live entertainment by the phenomenal LeCompt, fantastic drink specials, a professional blind judging to declare the overall Wing King, contests, giveaways and a new VIP session (free dope t-shirt if you go with the VIP session and 1 hour early entry). My only question for you is why haven’t you purchased your ticket?! There is a limited amount of tickets left, so uh I would get on that.
I’ll see everyone there, just look for the guy in a Just Grubbin hoodie covered in wing sauce.
