We had the opportunity to attend the 12th Annual Philly Craft Beer Festival on March 3rd, 2018 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The day before, a freak snow storm hit the Philadelphia area and high winds lingered throughout the whole weekend but that didn’t stop the crowded from turning out.
Despite the cold and mud (so much mud) the event itself made it all worth it. They showcased beers from breweries all across the country as well as food trucks from the Philadelphia area. We look forward to their next event.

Soggy Conditions for Festival Attendees Result in Free Fest Tix from Event Producer
PHILADELPHIA, PA. March 5, 2018 – The Philly Craft Beer Festival, the event USA Today named one of the 10 Best Beer Festivals in the U.S., Forbes Travelercalled one of the “Top 10 Beer Festivals in America,” and winner of Philly Beer Scene’s coveted “Best Beer Fest” award for three years in a row, was held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, the day following severe weather conditions which dumped significant amounts of rain and snow on parts of the Northeast. Despite soggy and blustery weather conditions, thousands of beer lovers from the City of Brotherly Love attended the long-running beer festival.
“There is a reason why this event has been named one of the Ten Best Beer Fests in the U.S. and awarded Best Beer Fest in Philly honors for the last few years. Unfortunately, this weekend, Mother Nature did not cooperate and sent heavy rains to the area causing us to fall short on delivering a great experience for the attendees, our customers,” said Andy Calimano, owner of event producer, Starfish Junction. “We did everything we could to make adjustments to the event footprint, making as many accommodations as we could to address the remnants of the previous night’s storm. While we cannot control the weather, we know that some of our attendees were disappointed and we plan to make it right,” he added.
Calimano has confirmed that every Philly Craft Beer Festival ticket buyer has been offered a complimentary ticket for his company’s upcoming Beer Under The Big Top, a circus-themed beer festival being held at The Navy Yard on Saturday, June 2, 2018. “The beer festival market is quite saturated, we have a great reputation, we want to keep it that way, and we want to stand out from the others,” said Calimano.
Many attendees were undoubtedly surprised by this expression of generosity and have already claimed their complimentary ticket. “I just want to say that this gesture is amazing and quite AWESOME!!!” wrote festival attendee Mary Thomas who received the special offer email announcement earlier today. “… it’s understood that weather is beyond your control. To offer free tickets to your next event is marketing at its finest and I am truly grateful!! These events are always fantastic and I always have a great time!” Calimano said they have received many positive comments from the email commending his company on their customer-centric efforts.
Beer Under the Big Top will be held at The Navy Yard on Saturday, June 2, 2018. It will have two sessions: VIP 12:30-5:00 pm and General Admission 1:30-5:00 pm. The VIP session will give VIP ticketholders an additional hour at the festival, more intimate access to brewers, and the ability to try rare and sought-after beers that are only being poured at this VIP session. VIP tickets are $75 each. General Admission tickets are $50 each when purchased online in advance of event day. Designated Driver tickets are $12 each.
