Nothing can prepare you for Truffles N Bacon Cafe‘s Belly Of The Beast burger. Even if you’ve seen the Instagrams, heard that it weighs 10 pounds — well, 10 1/2, actually — and spoke to people who’ve tried it and lived to tell the tale, you’re still not ready for just how big it is. It’s wider than a hubcap, taller than your head, and is absolutely dripping with cheese, tater tots, and egg yolks.
Only the most steel-bellied can be bold enough to take a look at it and say, “break me off a slice of that!” Because, yes, that’s how it’s served: By the slice. Though it’s physically impossible to take one bite of all of the layers at once, nothing should stop you from trying.
As soon as people hear about the behemoth burger, they usually say, “Oh, it’s part of some kind of challenge, right?” After all, it’s served in Las Vegas, home of the “eat it in under an hour and get a free shirt/drink/photo of your gluttonous endeavors mounted on the wall for all to see!” But it isn’t. In fact, it all started with a humble Flamin’ Hot Cheeto.
“A customer brought us Hot Cheetos one day, and asked our chef to make something with them,” explains owner Magnolia Magat, miming pinching a single cheese puff between two fingers. The challenge was accepted, and before long, they debuted on the menu as Disco Tots.
It was the perfect high-low mix, and strangely, it worked: Tater tots are tossed in truffle oil, then topped with shredded cheese, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, serrano peppers, pork belly, and crispy tortilla strips. The whole thing’s drizzled with ranch and BBQ sauce, creating a sweet-savory-salty-umami explosion that’s all at once gooey, crunchy, and cheesy. In essence, it’s a total mindtwist.
Sweet Cheeseburger Jesus…I would absolutely try a slice of this behemoth and honestly if i’m in the right mindset/ hungry as fuck I would go back for about 4 more. I know that Walker would definitely be in with me.
