Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado…Welcome to the world of the Mexican cartel and deep deep Intel that plays by its own rules. This movie is set on border wars..forget 20 years ago when drugs are what ruled, now it’s the dirty business of people smuggling! Highly lucrative, extremely dangerous, and always a game of cat and mouse. The film went with a new direction from director Stefano Sollima, he dug a tad deeper than the previous director Denis Villanueve. Like I said the first movie focused on the borders of the powerful Mexican cartel and the drug trade between the U.S., this movie Sicario 2 dealt with the ugly side of the human trafficking business.
U.S. officer Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) put together a strong team and featured the untouchable covert assassin Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro). They go on an uphill, non-stop, adrenaline rushed journey to solve a massive problem from a well known ally that bugs them like a gnat but won’t stop for anything to get the mission done. If you’re accustomed to Sollimas’ films, you know that it’s a work of art; he builds slow but it’s never boring. There are very minimal drags, but even those won’t leave you bored because you’re on the edge of your seat knowing that something explosive is about to happen. When I say explosive, I mean that this movie was EXPLOSIVE from the jump to the very end. I want to say one thing, Benicio Del Toro steals the show! The dude is a bad ass…how can a man take terminator blows and still rise like old school Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers???!!! DAMN! Just know that you will be on a high adrenaline rush by the end of the movie, biting your nails, on the edge of your seat and wanting more type of rush. Sorry, yeah you will want more cause it leaves you with that feeling of someone dangling your favorite treat just over your head like “here come and get it” then takes it away like “siiiike”!
**SPOILER** Be prepared for part 3.. “SO YOU WANT TO BE A SICARIO, FOLLOW ME” the classic closing line… drop curtain, roll credits! I give this movie a good 4.5 black bean vegan burgers prepared with some beautiful toppings and a side of sweet potato fries. Yes, it was good yet a tad short of being a classic but it’s certainly up there. If you’ve seen the first one then you will definitely enjoy this one and the direction it goes and leads for a future project. No need to approach with caution…this one is well worth the money spent. So get up off the couch, grab ya date and get ya butts to the theater to see SICARIO 2: DAY OF THE SOLDADO, Provide your feedback and let me know what you think!
Come back and get more from the movie man and as always continue to get your grub on!!
