News – “The last Blockbuster in America is creating a beer to celebrate its lonely status” – Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon — the last location of the video-rental chain left in the United States — is collaborating with a craft brewer to make a beer.

  • The black ale will be available at 10 Barrel pub locations, including the two in Bend, Oregon.
  • The Bend Blockbuster became the last location of the chain still open in the US in July, when the final locations in Alaska closed up shop.

The last Blockbuster left standing in America now has an official beer.

The Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon, is collaborating with craft brewer 10 Barrel Brewing Co. to create a beer called “The Last Blockbuster.” The beer — a black ale — will be at all six 10 Barrel pub locations, including the two in Bend, for a limited time.

The Last Blockbuster beer will debut on September 21 at a block party in Bend, Oregon. The party will be open to the public.

“The Last Blockbuster beer pairs perfectly with buttery theater popcorn and your favorite movie-sized chocolate with a light body, smooth finish and hints of nostalgia,” Chris Cox, the cofounder of 10 Barrel Brewing, told Business Insider in an email.

Following the closure of the final Blockbuster locations in Alaska earlier this year, the Bend location became the only holdout in the extinction of Blockbuster across the US.

The lone survivor of the vaunted Blockbuster namesake is making a bold move. On September 21st the last Blockbuster will be teaming up with 10 Barrel Brewing Co. to make a Black Ale that would pair perfect with a night of Net… -er I mean Blockbuster & chill. The beer will aptly named, “The Last Blockbuster” will make its debut at a block party being held to celebrate nostalgia, movies & beer.

As someone who is rumored to live at an abandoned Blockbuster there is no way I couldn’t pass up the chance to comment on this amazing mashup. The only thing I need now is a sixer of this brilliant beer & to dust off the ole VCR so I can watch the Dallas Cowboys last Super Bowl win. If you happen to be out in Oregon hook your boy up. As someone that got to see Blockbuster in its glory on Friday nights during the 90’s I’m truly happy to see the Bend, Oregon location put up a fight & do things like this to stay relevant keeping its doors open. Just remember to be king & rewind, guys.
