Color Guard presentation by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Nassau County, Ch. 82

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is the only congressionally chartered national veterans’ service organization dedicated to serving veterans of the Vietnam War and their families. Festival attendees are invited to witness a special salute to our heroes as local VVA chapter leads a presentation of colors to open the event.

Sign the Giant Thank You Card for our Veterans

Leave a kind word of appreciation on the giant thank you card. We hope to gather enough thoughtful sentiments to make any veteran who sees it feel the love and appreciation for their service to our country. The giant card will stay on display at the venue for a limited time.

Timed Releases

Special beers, available in limited quantities, offered at specific times until they run out.  Check back for the schedule of the releases then set your phones for alerts so you don’t miss the mini special events on site.

Write A Holiday Card to Send to the Troops

Visit the “Holiday Table” and write a card that we’ll collect and send to active duty soldiers who won’t be home this holiday with their family. The holiday cards were designed by the Project Nine Line Veteran artists.

Play Some Backyard Games

Who doesn’t love giant jenga and playing cornhole?  Challenge your friends to a game and see who has the mad balance skills to excel and jenga or the precision to score some points at the most popular backyard game of them all, cornhole.

Silent Auction

Bid on music and sports memorabilia, extraordinary travel experiences, and more.  From Patrick Stewart to Danica Patrick… You’re invited to bid on several great collectibles (great for gift giving) and travel experiences (how about a California winery tour?).

Pick Up Some Event Merch

If you love beer (or know someone who does), you’ll want the check out the offerings at the official event merch tent.  There you’ll be able to pick up an official event tee or sweatshirt for yourself or as a holiday gift.  There’s a great assortment of items for men and women!

Now Collecting – Care Package Items!

Starfish Junction Productions, producers of the Great Beer Expo: Long Island, has adopted a group of active duty soldiers and will be sending them care package(s) for the holidays. These soldiers will be away from home for the holidays, so we need to show some gratitude and love from home.

As you print out your tickets and get rides organized to get to the beer festival, please also pick-up some items to send overseas. We will be collecting the items listed below upon entry into the event:

• Snacks (non-perishable ones) – maybe donate that leftover Halloween candy?
• Toiletries – items like lip balms, shaving cream, deodorant go a long way!
• “Fun” Items – think magazines and games to pass the time.

General Admission (online/in advance): $45 (+tax/fees); on event day $55 (+tax/fees) if available

Designated Driver Tickets: $12 (+tax/fees)

Charity Partner

Suffolk County Homefront, Inc. is a not for profit organization located in Suffolk County New York.  They are a group of volunteers who proudly live within Suffolk County and believe it is our civic duty to support the brave men and women of our military who also reside here.  Their support extends to the military units located within the county, the families of our service members and to our resident veterans.

Their mission includes, but is not limited to: purchasing supplies, equipment and care packages for our deployed service members, volunteering time at military sponsored events, and also recognizing the sacrifices of those who have died or been injured during combat.

Suffolk County Homefront, Inc. was created to honor the memory, sacrifice and heroism of Marine Cpl. Matthew V. Dillon, a family member killed in action on December 11, 2006.

Matthew had completed one tour of duty in Iraq in 2004 as a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds sustained during combat  in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In September 2006, Matthew returned to Iraq as a Marine, assigned to the Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 as a Military Policeman. He was selected as the fire team leader for the HAVOC II combat team. On December 11, 2006 in the Al Anbar Province, while engaged in battle with insurgents, the humvee Matt and his team were in was struck by an IED killing him and two fellow Marines.  For this, Cpl Dillon was awarded his second Purple Heart with a Gold Star.

Matthew was just short of his 26th birthday when he made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  His family and friends do not measure his life by the short time he was on this earth but by the quality of which he lived those years. In keeping with the spirit and patriotism of who Cpl Matthew Dillon was, this organization was created.  To honor Matthew and all veterans, Suffolk County Homefront strives to be successful in their mission to support the brave men and women of Suffolk County who are so valiantly serving our country and to uphold the honor of our Veterans.

DO: Get your tickets in advance to guarantee admission.

No one likes to pay the higher price when they wait to buy their tickets on event day.  AND, if the event is sold out, you won’t be able to buy tickets at all.  Plan accordingly.

DON’T: Wait until the last day.

Prices are $10 higher if you procrastinate.

DO: Have a hearty lunch/dinner.

In the ninety minutes leading up to the festival’s first pour have a meal with a rich mixture of carb-, cheese-, and grease-laden food.  These will form a strong barrier between the high gravity beers you are about to ingest and your bloodstream.

DON’T: Drink before the festival.

It may seem like a good idea at the time, but having an early beer or two will negatively impact your festival experience.  If you arrive intoxicated, you don’t get in.  Plus, there will be some awesome beers at the Expo, you’ll want to enjoy them.

DO: Plan your transportation in advance.

Maybe you have a friend who will be the designated driver that night? Or you can get dropped off by a friend or family member? Or hire a taxi, Uber, Lyft. Whichever you choose, be prepared, there is no excuse to drink and drive.

DON’T: Forget to hydrate.

This should be a no-brainer! Water, water, and more water. Make sure you hydrate before and during the show.

DO: Stop by the official event merchandise tent.

Check out a possible souvenir to take home. Whether it is an “official” event t-shirt or a sweatshirt with a snarky beer saying on it. Shop early for the best selection and size availability.

DON’T: Forget to bring your photo ID.

All attendees (even designated drivers who must also be 21+) are required to show valid photo ID for entry.

DO: Download your ticket to your phone/print it out.

Sometimes the venue’s internet is spotty or non-existent. If you have a hard copy of your ticket or a copy downloaded onto your phone, entering the event will be a speedy and pleasant experience.

DON’T: Forget to eat at the event.

Even if you had a big breakfast, you’ll want to take a break, even for just a few moments, to grab a hotdog, pretzel, slice of pizza, something to keep your belly full and your wits about you.

DO: Download the event map.

So you can find your favorite breweries, locate restrooms, find smoking areas, and identify entrance/exits.

DON’T: Forget to wear your pretzel necklaces!

Oh so fashionable and satisfying, it wouldn’t be a beer fest if at least 50% of the attendees weren’t wearing pretzels on a string!

DO: Be social with us!

Post picts and make posts using the event hashtag #GREATBEEREXPO. We’re on Instagram (@greatbeerexpo)Facebook (@LIBeerEvents)SnapChat (@LIBeerEvents), and Twitter (@LIBeerEvents)

DON’T: Forget to take the online survey.

You will receive an email a day or two after the event. It is an anonymous and important way for you to share information with the event producers about your experience.
