I’m a sucker for a good breakfast sandwich, matter fact i’m one of those people that can eat breakfast for lunch and dinner. I’m not ashamed to say that when McDonald’s announced they were serving all day breakfast sandwiches I hit the illest fat man dance of all time in my living room….stop judging me. I’m going to start rolling out weekly top 5 lists until the creative juices stop or I run out of things to rank. So it’s only right that I rank my top 5 favorite breakfast sandwiches. The only qualifications for this list is that the establishment has to have a drive thru, no getting out the whip to clog these arteries.
#5. Croissan’wich from Burger King
This BK staple comes in at number 5 and that’s not a negative thing because when this is on point it’s one of the best fast food breakfast sandwiches around. The problem is it’s not always on point sadly, depending on the location you visit you might get one super fresh made with love or one that feels like it was left out overnight….really not much middle ground either. They also are always basically 2 for 4 bucks and that alone is enough to place them on this list.
#4. Sausage Egg and Cheese McMuffin from McDonald’s
One of the more consistent breakfast sandwiches out there. My cousin and fellow grubber Chris actually didn’t discover how good these were until somewhat recently but he’s been fucking them up ever since. The only knock I can really see here is that certain locations will just brutalize the muffin or it’ll be flat out stale…very rare you run into this problem though.
#3. Steak Egg and Cheese from McDonald’s
This might be my first controversial take because most people are always like “Who eats steak from McDonald’s?”….me motherfucker. Simply put when this is made fresh and right it’s one of the best things you’ll have from a drive thru at 8 am. Me, Leer and Mo are basically the presidents of the McDonald’s steak egg and cheese fan club…it’s soooooo good, something about the combination of that steak, onions, soft bagel, cheese and egg that sets off all my foodie endorphins. This could easily be number one but it’s not consistent enough, that’s why I always try to get it as early as possible.
Pro tip: Mo put me on to this, ask for the McMuffin egg….takes this to the next level.
#2. Spicy Chicken Biscuit from Chick Fil A
So this apparently is a rarity these days, at least around the South Jersey/ Philadelphia area. I used to be able to order it all the time and man oh man was it something special. I mean the spicy chicken from Chick Fil A is already elite, now add a buttermilk biscuit to that and my friends you have a work of art. I know you can still get this in the morning in most other states and that’s what pisses me off more about my current living situation….guys you have the spicy chicken right there…what do you mean you can’t make that?! Le Sigh.
#1. Sausage and Egg Buttermilk Biscuit with Cheese from McDonalds
This is the Alabama Football of fast food breakfast sandwiches, always dominating the field of play doing the most simple things. I’ve had hundreds of these in my lifetime and it’s SOOOOO rare that I ever get a bad one, and if I did it was probably my fault because I got there at 11:29 or some shit. It literally always hits the spot and that’s why my boy CJ always says “Can’t go wrong with a McDonald’s breakfast biscuit brotha”. I know people are going to argue and also shit on McDonald’s having so many items on this list especially claiming the top spot but hey….there was a reason people demanded that they serve 24 hour breakfast and a reason they celebrated when they did. It’s great in a pinch man. Let me know your thoughts below and give me suggestions on what you want me to rank next!
Honorable mentions: Sausage egg and cheese plain bagel from Dunkin, Mcgriddle, Sausage egg and cheese bagel from Chic Fil A
