Costco sells out of 27-lb. bucket of mac and cheese with a 20-year shelf life

usatoday.comIf you like macaroni and cheese – and a lot of it – then you’re not alone. And Costco knows that.

The wholesaler is selling a 27-lb. bucket of one of America’s favorite comfort foods. And if you’re worried about getting through it quickly, have no fear: the product has a 20-year shelf life.

But while the macaroni and cheese might last many years in the bucket, it has been gobbled up swiftly. Less than 24 hours after People magazine reported on the product, the Chef’s Banquet Macaroni and Cheese Storage Bucket is listed as “out of stock” on Costco’s website.

According to Costco’s website, the product contains 180 servings and costs $89.99.

Costco did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Well that escalated quickly. I blogged this story last week and said how the thought of 20 year old mac and cheese grossed me out and how the biggest consumer for this product would be 19 year old sorority girls. I didn’t have it selling out in 24 hours though. That’s insane but I always forget that we as people like excess and love mac and cheese….combine the two and I guess this is the results. There’s definitely a business plan here.
