Welcome to the Everything is Awesome HEADstrong fundraising page!
My name is Kevin M. Gallagher, Jr and I’m the host of the Philadelphia based podcast, Everything is Awesome.  We have joined forces with the HEADstrong Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to providing essential services to improve lives affected by cancer.

In January of 2016, my uncle—Alvin Dohl—was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. By July of that same year, he went into remission; though that only lasted for about a month. By the time September hit, the cancer had come back and it was aggressive. After a hard fought battle, we ultimately lost him in November of 2016.

You can find several episodes of me talking about what my uncle meant to me on my podcast, Everything is Awesome.  But, in short, he was like an older brother to me. I wouldn’t have the sense of humor I have today if it weren’t for him. I wouldn’t be a Kevin Smith fan (yes, my uncle probably shouldn’t have shown me Clerks when I was 12 years old), and my first memory of Star Wars is watching it with him. Simply put, I wouldn’t be ME without him. More importantly, we lost him far too young—he was 47 when he passed; about to turn 48. The biggest tragedy isn’t that he left me or his siblings behind, but his wife and (at the time) 5 year old son. This year, on December 20th, 2018, he would have been 50 years old.

Also in 2018, about a week or so after the anniversary of losing my uncle, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Days before Thanksgiving, we found out how bad it is—stage 4 that has spread. He has begun treatment and there is a lot of positivity about keeping it at bay. While I can’t begin to know exactly how my uncle felt or how my father feels, I do know what it’s like to be a loved one who literally can’t do anything to fix it. There’s a good chance you’ve been that loved one.

While there isn’t much I can do, in 2017 I did the only thing I knew I could do to help others—put together a festival of podcasts to raise money and awareness. While it wasn’t much, in one day, five independent creators got together for a day of live podcasting and raised a few hundred dollars. In 2018, six shows did the same thing.

In 2019, we’re back to do it again. This time, we have 20 shows and 20 comedians / improvisers, across 4 venues, getting together with the goal to raise at least $500. This year, we’re partnering with HEADstrong to raise awareness and funds for by putting together THE 2019 EVERYTHING IS AWESOME HEADstrong COMEDY FESTIVAL and seeking donations from family and friends.

**90 cents of every dollar supports the HEADstrong Foundation mission**

The blueprints for the Foundation were conceptualized by Nicholas “HEAD” Colleluori in 2006, from his hospital bed while he underwent treatment for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which ultimately claimed his life. Today, Nick’s vision is being fulfilled through the relentless efforts of his family, athletes and supporters across the country uniting in the fight against cancers.
